Dig-proofing your Fenceline

Got a problem fenceline? Siberian Huskies are great escape artists, and digging under a fence is one of the easiest ways that your dog can escape the confines of his yard. Here is just one way to stop a tunnelling escape-artist.

THE STARTING POINT

This fence may look to be in reasonable shape,
but a few minutes of good digging is all it will take to tunnel out

STEP 1

First dig a trench 20-30cm deep and 30cm wide along the length of the fence

STEP 2

Now lay fence wire into the trench, starting about half way up the
fence plinth and dropping the full depth of the trench. Allow enough wire
to make an L-bend at the base and then extend out to the full trench width.

STEP 3

Secure the top of the wire to the fence plinth with fencing staples at regular intervals.

STEP 4

Back-fill the trench.

THE FINISHED RESULT

Minimal visual impact but much it's harder to tunnel under now!
