Snow cover at Mt Margaret is not reliable (especially in the current climate!) In the past five years, we have been to Mt Margaret five times and only two of those walks had any significant snow. In 2006, there was no snow at Mt Margaret in the whole of August, but plenty up there on one cold Wednesday ... in November! (It was all gone by the next weekend, damnit!)
So we will keep watch on the weather, and if snow is unlikely then we will replace this alpine walk with the alternative contingency walk (see below). Also, we will only be conducting one snow walk this year, so if we go to Mt Margaret in July, then we will be going to Yarra Bend in August instead. The decision as to which walk will be held will be made on the day before, and posted to the Club web site. If you pre-register interest in these walks, which is strongly advised, then we will also advise you directly via either e-mail or an SMS message, by 2pm on the day prior to the walk. To pre-register, please send us email, no later than four days prior to the event.
This walk will be held at Mt Margaret near Marysville. Melways Map 610 Ref. T11.

Contingency walk at Yarra Flats (Heidelberg):This walk will only proceed if there is insufficient snow at Mt Margaret (see above). A walk along the Yarra at Heidelberg. Melway Map 32 C6. There is plenty of shade from the many graceful trees that grow along the flats of the river. Nice pram-friendly paths and picturesque views. Bring a picnic lunch. |

Could all members planning on attending walks please put the co-ordinator's mobile phone number into their own phones in case they get lost on the way to the meeting point, or find that they are in the wrong place altogether!
