Here we will endeavour to help you recognise just what a Siberian Husky IS and IS NOT!
We want every Siberian Husky to be placed where it will be appreciated for its special qualities, and for every prospective purchaser not to be disappointed because they were not told of the dog’s possibilities, good or bad.
The Siberian Husky is one of the most awesome animals one can ever hope to own. But just like children, they require a large amount of effort if you want to get the most out of them. The more you put in, the more you will get out.

If you want a dog that will become an integrated member of the family... If you want a dog that doesn't need to eat much (but will gorge itself
when it has the chance)… If you want a dog that interacts well with children… If you want a dog that is exceptionally intelligent, and can be extremely
well trained with due effort… If you want a dog that will love to go for long walks or runs, with exceptional
staying power and endurance... If you want your dog to be part of your own private 'pack structure',
where hopefully you are at the top of the pack... If you want a dog with a coat that is low maintenance and very clean... If you want a dog that you can have indoors without your entire house
smelling like a giant wet dirty dog... If you want a dog that is mischievous and will make you laugh with its
antics... If you want a dog that is by its very nature loving and gentle with people
at all times... If you want a dog that will watch people all day without complaint -
as in, watch them enter your house, rob the place, and walk right out
without barking... |
Siberians are a gregarious lot and need the company of other dogs or
people at all times. If you work all day, or have room for only one dog... If you have no time to go to obedience classes with a puppy that will
grow to be strong enough to drag you along for your walks... While capable of strong affection for his family, the Siberian Husky
is also very friendly with strangers. So, if you want the fierce loyalty
of a one-man-dog... The Siberian Husky is not a watch dog, although those ignorant of his
true nature may be frightened by his appearance. If you want a dog with
aggressive guard-dog instincts... At least once a year Siberians shed their coats. If you like fur all
over the house and in the very air you breathe, then fine. If, however,
you value neatness at all times, then... Siberian Huskies have a natural proclivity for digging holes in backyards.
If you take great pride in your landscaping efforts... Of all the shortcoming to be found in Siberians, the most dangerous to
the pet owner is their tremendous desire to RUN. But the very first dash
that a puppy makes across the road could be his last run, anywhere. If
you are one of those people who think it is cruel to keep him confined
to his own backyard, or on a lead... Siberian Huskies have a very keen prey drive. Siberian thought
process - "If it runs, it is good to chase". If you do
not intend to keep your dog out of trouble from chasing cats, chooks,
etc... |
If you have read this far, honestly feel that you qualify on all counts, and

welcoming you to the fold. Join the rest of us in the smug complacency of knowing
that we own the most beautiful, the smartest, the most nearly ideal dog in the
world...
